Shelter Island Here We Come!
The Fishers Island 2010 Cruise will depart West Harbor Sunday, July 25th and will return Monday, July 26th. Organizing the Cruise this year are Lynne Long and Kristen Cashel. The Cruise will be to Shelter Island, NY. It is an overnight trip and there will be a delicious dinner planned for those attending (details to come).
Shelter Island is located between the North and South Forks of Long Island. Original settlers came to the island from England seeking religious freedom and later wealthy Europeans from Barbados in the sugar business settled there because of the plentiful white oak trees used to make their barrels. It is an historic and interesting island to explore and a wonderful destination for an overnight stay.
The destination for participants of the FIYC Cruise 2010 will be one of our reciprocal clubs, The Shelter Island Yacht Club (SIYC). To reserve a mooring or dockage please visit their website at www.siyc.com or call 631-749-0888.
For hotel accommodations, we encourage FIYC members to make reservations at The Chequit Inn. It is a charming Victorian Inn, built in 1872, and is walking distance from the Shelter Island Yacht Club. The Inn has a fabulous restaurant and bar. For those who may want to come a day early they have live music every Saturday night during the summer. On the website they have information regarding transportation to NYC for those who are interested.
The room rates for the Chequit Inn are:
Summer Cottage - $90-$125, Cedar House - $195, Main Building - $225-$275
An alternative to the Chequit Inn (although not walking distance) is The Ram's Head Inn. There are 8 moorings at the Ram's Head Inn in the event there is overflow from the Shelter Island Yacht Club. The moorings are on a first come first served basis.

Private bath: $325, Shared bath: $150, 2 bedroom suite $350
We would like to encourage all FIYC members with their families and friends to join this fun event. If you would like to go but do not have a boat, or have extra space on your boat and are willing to provide transportation, please email one of the Cruise organizers.
